Anonymous asked: This would be a great article in teen magazine....minus the language ofcourse pntrsue

Perhaps I should be a writer for a frilly magazine! NOT…and I’m just trying to provide my niece with some valuable information :)

Due to a recent discussion with my niece, Alix, I have decided to return to Tumblr. My reasons for leaving don’t need to be discussed on Tumblr because there are some things you just don’t need to post online. (In a way, I just answered my question but SSshhh!! Let’s not go there).
ANYWAYS!
Having been inspired by a conversation with my niece, I decided to dole out some words of wisdom. While I wouldn’t dare tell either of my niece who they should be, there are some basic guidelines that I think are good for every girl to know:
1. Be the Smart Girl. Not a Dumb Bitch.
There are many ways to be a dumb bitch. If you don’t think before you say something mean, post an overdramatic status, or a tweet…you’re a dumb bitch. If you pretend to be less intelligent to get a guy’s attention, you’re a dumb bitch. If you sacrifice the close relationships of your loyal friends and family for petty reasons, you’re a dumb bitch. Instead, keep it classy. Be drama-free on and off the internet. Own you’re amazingness instead of settling for some dumbass douchebag who doesn’t appreciate it. Be good to those who are good to you because those are the people who will always have your back.
2. Be the fun girl. Not the lame bitch.
If you’d rather sit in the corner, pouting while trying to look cool rather than laughing and enjoying yourself with your friends, you’re a lame bitch. If you have to complain about every little thing while you’re out with your friends, your a lame bitch. If you can’t break loose and dance and make an ass out of yourself from time to time, you’re a lame bitch. Try being the girl that laughs the loudest, rolls with the punches, and has the confidence to have a good time without over-thinking it.
That being said…
3. Don’t Be the Girl Who Has Too Much Fun.
Have some self respect. Too much fun can result in getting too drunk, hooking up with dudes you shouldn’t hook up with, and overall, just looking like a lame drunk ass dumb bitch. You’re grades will drop and you won’t have girl friends because no one trusts the out of control skank. There are times when you need to buckle down and focus rather than partying it up. Know how to balance work and play because this is an invaluable skill.
Well there you have it! Three good guidelines for how to be fucking awesome. Hope you find this helpful Alix!

Liiiike, OMG!

I haven’t been on tumblr in forever. Sorry, I’ll fix that…umm, RIGHT NOW! :)

The following photos were taken at my nephew, Bryce’s baseball game. The crazy child with the ice cream cone is my nephew, Maddox. He will be 3 next week and Bryce is 10. I love going to sporting events for my nieces and nephews because it makes me feel like the “cool” aunt. I don’t know if they think I’m cool or not and none of them call me “aunt” Katelynn (which kinda bums me out sometimes) but if there’s one thing that I’m certain of, it’s that I refuse to be the psycho/weird/alcoholic/wino/obnoxious aunt. I would preferably want to be the cool/sassy/interesting/young/supportive aunt. We’ll see how it all pans out.

Waiting to go home…To Philly

I’m sitting here waiting for my mother to get back to take me home to Philly. That’s because Philly is my home. The house that I’m sitting in is what I fondly refer to as my “parents house”. It’s a safe place to be but I really don’t like to call it my home because technically, Philly is where most of my people are and when I’m there, I’m really in my element. That’s just how I feel. I took some pictures while I was at my “parent’s house” for a few days. But I didn’t bring my cord to upload anything :( So that’s gonna happen tonight. Yay!

So that was me saying something for the sake of saying something since I’m trying to have one post everyday.

So, bye.

What I learned today. For serious.

I went to work today, did my thing, and got out early. Nothing special. HOWEVER, when I got out of work around 9 o’clock I felt that it was too nice of a night to just go home and do the usual bland stuff I’d normally do. I decided to take a walk over to South Street and visit my friend Mohammed.

Background story: Mohammed Kammoun is the owner of a rather successful hookah bar called “Leila’s Cafe” (named after his daughter) in South Philly. He opened the establishment two years ago after many years of working for Merk. I have had the pleasure of sitting down with him and discussing his life story over some amazing arabic tea…and hookah of course! What I know about him from the conversations that we’ve had is that he is a middle aged Lebanese man who moved to America to attend Boston University when he was about 19 years old. He got a full scholarship from a wealthy Lebanese man because he happens to be a very intelligent person. And I could believe it.

My friendship with Mohammed has been very eye opening in ways that I did not expect. Here is a man who really seems to just wing it sometimes. He had the courage to quit a stable job that he devoted several years to and take a chance on something that he has really wanted to do. People thought he was crazy but its apparent that he truly loves what he does and I think that’s why his business is so successful. He works from 9 am to 3 am the next morning and does this seven days a week. I find his work ethic so inspiring but even more than that, I love his attitude on life.

What has Mohammed taught me? Today he told me, “You need heart and a sense of adventure, otherwise you are just a robot.” We were talking about his cross country road trip that he took during his college years. He had taken a three week road trip with his girlfriend (who eventually became his wife) and they set out to tackle the country without any type of plan or clear set path of travel. They came across tornados, sand storms, creepy ghost towns, and all kinds of crazy things. The stories were endless and I enjoyed every one of them. This is not the only big road trip he’s taken but it was the most interesting to me because I am in the beginning stages of planning a cross country road trip myself. He told me not to wait until I graduate because then I’ll never do it. Thus, I am excited to say that I am committing… right now… to a cross country road trip next summer. It will not wait because there just isn’t a better time to do something like this then while I’m still in the prime of my life and crazy as hell. This week I’m purchasing a road map of the U.S and I will be discussing destinations with Mohammed over some tea and hookah I’m sure.

Aside from this one particular thing, Mohammed has really inspired me to grab life by the balls and flip off anyone who dares question me. Its a cliche statement but, you really do only live ONCE. Why the hell wait on things that you really want to do? The time is always now. He didn’t back down when people told him he was crazy for wanting to open a Hookah bar. He went and did it. I’m not going to let people tell me the worlds too dangerous to go and see it. I’m gonna go SEE it! Don’t let anyone try to tell you something is wrong because in the end, no one really knows what the hell they’re talking about anyways. No one knows it but you.

I hope that inspired someone? Maybe? A little? OK, Cool! Got get em’!

Engagement Photos

This morning I woke up bright and early and headed to South Philly for my first paying photo job of the summer. Hooray! For the record, this couple is adorable and they were great to work with. I even got a free haircut out of the deal! Here are a few of the photos…

I’m Bored…

- your favorite actress: I don’t really have one. Does Tina Fey count? I just think she’s badass.

 - your favorite guilty pleasure: Hm, Listening to Billy Joel while washing the dishes, watching The Office until 3 am, Ice cream >:)

 - your favorite musician: At the moment its Adele. I know everyone loves her right now but I just think she’s a cool person and she’s got an amazing voice. I also currently enjoy Mumford & Songs, Angus & Julia Stone, and Bon Iver.

 - your favorite food: Strawberries, They’re fresh and summery

 - your favorite flower: Bright, colorful, obnoxious, in your face gerber daisies.

 - your favorite outfit: My fashion choices change depending on my mood/ the day so I couldn’t give you a straight answer.

 - your favorite memory: I have so many. To list a few..Playing gin rummy with my brother/ the times he would let me look at his prized dice collection (which is now in my possession), When he bought me a toy iguana for Christmas. (theres more to that story.) The moment I realized I loved someone for the first time.  California trip 2008. Four loko nights with my Photo-J crew.

 - whomever you find most attractive in this world: Jim Halpert. The only thing more attractive than his adorable face is his awesome personality. Sigh, if only he actually existed.

 - your favorite board game: Candy land all the way…across the sky.

 - your favorite movie: Hm, the only movie that comes to mind is Elizabethtown…I don’t know that anyone would understand why except for Kelsey Diane Davis.

 - your favorite music video: Burn-Usher…it was epic! They set a pool on fire! It doesn’t get better than that. Obviously I’m joking but I don’t really have anything else in mind.

 - the last movie you’ve seen in theaters: POTC…and before that was Bridesmaids. That’s the funniest movie EVER!!

- the last book you’ve read: Bossy Pants- Tina Fey’s autobiography. It was awesome.

 - a YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcx4_CszaDI Symone showed me this one once and I’ve loved it ever since.

 - your day, in great detail: I woke up, made a smoothie, watched Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu (yes, I still watch it, don’t judge me.) got ready for work, walked to work. Sat people at tables for 5 hours and made reservations, walked home, got some food, and now I’m doing this.

 - a song that makes you cry: It doesn’t make me cry anymore but for a few months there the song I fell in love without you(acoustic version) by Motion City Soundtrack could easily reduce me to tears. Landslide by Fleetwood Mac can have that effect on me too sometimes.

 - a talent of yours: Meeting people and convincing them to let me take their picture. Oh, and taking down a pint of ice cream in 5 minutes. Its happened on many occasions.

 - your favorite television program: The Office, Modern Family, Community.

 - hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days: I guess I just want to be happy.

dreams: I dream that I’ll just float away on a cloud and run free with the unicorns.

goals: To make money off of being a freelance photographer.

and finally, plans? Skydiving, possibly going to Texas if I’m financially able to do so, taking a few days to go to Nantucket, Partying at my Aunt’s beach house for a few days, hosting some friends in Philly on occasion.

 - a picture of where you’re from

That’s my old home. I don’t know whose car that is but it’s probably whoever lives there now :/

 - something embarrassing in your room: Probably Mr/Mrs Potato head and their accessories. Whatevs, they’re my only TRUE friends anyways.

 - something that made you smile today: I had to smile a lot because I’m a hostess and that’s the job requirement. Otherwise, probably conversing/joking with some of the people that I work with.

 - something you wish you could change about yourself: I wouldn’t know where to start but I guess my main thing would be to care less about making other people happy and just doing whatever makes me happy.

 - something you want to get tattooed: “Wherever you go, There you are.” On my feet.

 - somewhere you want to visit: I want to visit the whole world. No exaggeration, I wanna see it all.

 - your favorite song: For Emma (acoustic) by Bon Iver and After the Storm by Mumford & Sons

 - one of your most prized possessions: My Nikon.

 - a song that’s been stuck in your head”- Ooh Lala by Faces. It’s the one that goes “I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger.” Its such a good song but it’s been running through my head nonstop this week
